March 14-17 Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.
March 6-9 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
February 27-March 3 Use information from illustrations and words in a print or digital text to understand characters, setting, or plot.
February 22-24 Describe the overall structure of a story.
February 13-16 Determine the meanings of words and phrases in a text relevant to grade 2 topics or subject areas.
January 30-February 10 NO ESOL CLASSES DUE TO ESOL TESTING
January 23-27 Describe how reasons support specific points the author makes in a text.
January 9-20 Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
December 12-22 Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud.
December 5-9 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
November 28-December 2 Identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text
November 9-18 We will be learning to explain how reasons support specific points that the author makes in a text.
October 12-November 4 We are reading fables and folktales from various cultures and determining the central message, lesson, or moral.
October 3-7 We are working on understanding and explaining how images contribute to the clarity of a text. We are working on how to use and understand various text features (e.g. captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, etc.) in order to locate key facts or information in a text.
